An institutional investor required secure movement and vaulting of precious metals under documented custody protocols. The Project Office coordinated logistics and storage with verified chain-of-custody at each stage.

Project Profile

Sector: Institutional Investment — Precious-Metals Holdings Management Scope: Secure multi-consignment logistics, in-transit documentation, third-party vault placement, and ongoing custody reporting Geography: Accra to designated secure storage — Ghana corridor Engagement Type: Retained facilitation mandate

A regional institutional investor managing a growing allocation to physical precious metals required a structured logistics and vaulting framework that could scale with their position. Their internal compliance function demanded documented chain-of-custody at every stage — from initial assay verification through physical transfer to vault confirmation. Kronix Metals was engaged to design and operate that framework.

The Specification Challenge

The engagement presented several compounding demands that standard trade facilitation arrangements could not address.

The client’s compliance committee required that no consignment move without a documented handover record tied directly to a prior assay certification. Their internal audit function, in turn, required that vault placement confirmations reference the originating documentation trail — not simply a weight certificate at point of deposit.

Beyond the documentation architecture, the logistics pathway required careful coordination. Multiple consignment sizes, varying collection points within Ghana, and a strict prohibition on commingling holdings meant that each movement had to be treated as a discrete, trackable event with its own paper trail.

The investor also required that Kronix Metals serve as the single accountable point of contact — absorbing coordination across assaying, transport, and storage partners so that their internal team received a consolidated custody record rather than fragmented reports from multiple vendors.

Approach

Kronix Metals structured the engagement around its core chain-of-custody protocol, adapted to the investor’s specific compliance requirements.

Each consignment entered the process at the assay verification stage. Kronix coordinated third-party assay using accredited in-country facilities, producing documentation that formed the root record for every subsequent step. Transport was arranged through vetted secure-logistics partners operating within the Ghana corridor, with handover documentation executed at each transfer point.

Vault placement was coordinated with an institutional-grade storage facility, and confirmation records were formatted to reference the originating assay documentation directly — satisfying the investor’s audit-traceability requirement. A consolidated custody report was issued to the client at agreed intervals, providing a single-document view of all active holdings, their assay status, and their storage location.

Responsible-sourcing declarations were maintained throughout, ensuring the holdings met the investor’s own institutional ESG obligations.

Outcome

The investor’s compliance committee completed its first internal audit of the precious-metals allocation without material findings against the custody documentation. The consolidated reporting format was adopted as the standard for the mandate going forward. The logistics pathway proved repeatable across multiple consignment cycles without process failure or documentation gap.

The investor subsequently extended the mandate to cover additional tranches of physical holdings as their allocation grew.

What This Project Demonstrates

Institutional investors entering or expanding physical precious-metals positions consistently encounter the same friction point: the gap between trade execution and the documentation rigour their compliance and audit functions require. A well-executed assay-and-transfer framework, built around chain-of-custody discipline from the outset, removes that friction entirely.

Kronix Metals operates precisely at that intersection — not simply as a logistics coordinator, but as the single accountable party that holds the documentation architecture together from first assay to vault confirmation. For investors whose internal compliance standards demand it, that structural accountability is the specification.
